KWN 2006

This year we wanted to continue on from the great success from last years KWN promotion and invite a larger number of schools from all over the country to participate. 900 schools were sent letters at the beginning of the year inviting them to take part in this year's KWN activities. The first step was to draw up a storyboard focusing on one of three topics of which were, Culture, Environmental and Sporting. We received over 150 entries in which we decided on a Top Eleven with last year's winners Avondale Intermediate gaining automatic entry. We provided each school with the latest in digital Panasonic equipment such as a movie camera and DVD recorder to develop their idea into a short 4-8 minute video. They had tho thirds of the school term to produce it. We had a fantastic response from the schools and some of the quality of the work was well above the line. Ngatea Primary was the main benefactor, taking out the award for "Overall Best Video". They recently travelled to Kuala Lumpur in December for the regional finals, being the "ASOM Region" (Asia/Pacific Region). Here they were very successful and narrowly missed out on the top prize to Indonesia. Since it was so close it was decided that both video entries should go into the grand final to compete against Europe, North America, Central America, South America and Africa.
